CLASSES
JAZZ
Jazz incorporates basic opening stretches, across-the-floor locomotive skills, and center combinations. It incorporates elements of classical ballet technique into the jazz dance style and format. Strict attention is focused on alignment, technique and style. Additional vocabulary and move variety are also incorporated into the combinations utilizing rhythmic variation, multiple turns and level changes.

BALLET
Ballet helps dancers achieve gorgeous lines – a lifted torso, well-articulated feet and beautiful epaulment (the position of the head and shoulders). Ballet develops a dancer’s strength-couple with suppleness and stamina. Excellent balance, essential to turns,
is achieved through the emphasis on proper vertical alignment. Control – visualizing the shape you want to make, then making your body do it fluidly – puts artistic flourish on a movement. Ballet develops discipline on more than one level. You have to give up a lot to study ballet. But putting long-term goals ahead of short-term pleasure can help you achieve much in life. Even if you become discouraged or frustrated with ballet mid-session, don’t give up.

HIP-HOP & TOT-HOP
Our hip-hop class will teach you how to shed your inhibitions and move like never before. You will learn how to glide, pop, lock, and break the 4 components of hip-hop movement. It combines funk and street styles along with jazz technique.

CLOGGING
UCDC’s style of contemporary clogging is combined with Jazz, Hip-Hop and Tap. The styles taught are traditional, buck and percussive step dancing. This is one of the most popular and fastest growing forms of dance ever.

PRE-SCHOOL MOM-N-TOTS
Mom-n-tots for 2.5-year olds and pre-school classes for 3-5 year-olds. This program introduces your child to the wonderful world of dance. Through exciting and stimulating instruction, we challenge your child’s imagination while he or she is learning the fundamentals of ballet and tap. Kinderdance teaches muscle coordination and control, musicality, rhythm, and flexibility. Also, he or she develops muscular pattering, the vital ingredients of any physical skill – dance, sports. The earlier this begins, the more deeply rooted it becomes and the benefits will remain throughout life.

TAP
Tap utilizes special metal-tipped shoes to produce various rhythms. Our program instructs students in both Classical Tap and Rhythm Tap. Classical Tap emphasizes more upper body movement along with making sounds. Rhythm Tap employs close footwork including many heel drops and toe drops to bring in a syncopated rhythmic beat.

UPSTATE CHALLENGERS
Designed for the special needs dancer. These classes work on motor movement skills, rhythm, flexibility, and overall discipline. This class is FREE.

ACROBATICS
Acrobatics teaches flexibility, balance, strength, coordination, muscle control, endurance and body awareness. This class will focus on fundamental acrobatic technique. The Acro elements taught will include, but are not limited to, hand-stands, chin stands, elbow stands, cartwheels, back bends, walkovers, balance, and contortion tricks. This class is great for students looking to enhance their agility, flexibility, and strengths.
