UCDC Jazz Company Members Train in Los Angeles

During the month of July nine UCDC jazz company members trained at various facilities throughout the Los Angeles area. The dancers were there for a minimum of two weeks of training. The dancers took classes at The Performing Arts Center (PAC), Millenium Dance Complex and The Edge Performing Arts Center. A typical day included 4 to 6 classes per day Monday through Friday. Some of the dancers were even treated to guest choreographers at night. The schedule could be grueling but the experience was well worth any aches, pains and fatigue!

It was not all work, though! Saturday and Sunday were free time for sightseeing and, of course, SHOPPING! The dancers visited the Hollywood overlook at Mulholland Drive, Malibu Beach, Venice Beach, Santa Monica and shopping on Melrose. A "tradition" for UCDC in LA is to dine at Goodfellows. (The chaperones espcially love this part of the trip!)

Several of the dancers were training on scholarships that they had won at conventions earlier in the year. These included: Jamie Roach, Staci Quinn, and Karlee Ferreira-2 weeks at PAC; Noelle Chasmar-2 weeks at Edge; Karlee Ferreira- 4 weeks at Edge (2 weeks used rhis trip); and Karlee Ferreira and Lindley Mayer-LA DanceMagic Summer intensive at PAC. Thanks for representing UCDC so well!

Clogging Team "Meet and Greet" and Special Viewing of Dance Fever Held at UCDC

Burgers on the grill and a big, real big, screened TV set the stage for a festive atmosphere to start off the new clogging team season at UCDC. Heather hosted the event with burgers and the big screen for watching the season Finale of Dance Fever, while clogging team members provided all the other cookout necessities. Heather wanted to have a kick off party for the new teams and at it coincided nicely with the finale of Dance Fever which featured UCDC instructor Mark Clifford. Clogging Team co-presidents Kathy Adams, Sloan Keifer and Lorie Reynolds helped Heather pull the event together. Everyone had an incredible time and it was so special to be able to watch the show with Mark. ALL THAT! made it to final round but was defeated by Live In Color. Mark and ALL THAT! became friends with the members of Live In Color while in Las Vegas. When asked, Mark says he didn't mind being defeated by them because they showed such great character the entire time the two groups were together. It was an unbelievable experience that got ALL THAT! and clogging in general incredible exposure. Mark, we are so proud of you!

Mark and Heather had prime seats for the Dance Fever Grand Finale. Heather had "Cameraman Doug" Rochester set up his big screen so the UCDC family could watch the show together.

The cooks did a GREAT job keeping burgers coming to the burger assemblers inside the kitchen.

The burger assemblers ( a.k.a.Lorie, Sherri and Heather) keep a steady pace putting the burgers in buns for the hungry crowd.
Jeannie and sloan put the finishing touches on a table full of drinks for the thirsty diners.

Heather introduces the Head Cook Henry Watson and his "supervisor" Johnnie. Henry, uncle of clogger Leslie Adams, provide the grills. His able assistants Rick Roach (white shirt) and Tim Holder (orange shirt) can be seen in the background. Thanks Henry and Johnnie!

It didn't take long for the line to form when dinner was announced for the hungry cloggers and parents

Even though there was heartfelt disappointment in the crowd, Mark was still all smiles after the show's end.

And the crowd goes WILD! Every time ALL THAT! was on the screen, the crowd went CRAZY! Especially when ALL THAT! made it to the final round.

UCDC's Mark Clifford and ALL THAT! Take Dance Fever and Las Vegas By Storm!

It all began in June when members of ALL THAT! decided to head to Atlanta to audition for a new series that was a remake of the old talent show Dance Fever. UCDC's Mark Clifford and his dance mates Brian Staggs, Delohn Collins and Mike Curtis made the cut to the final 48 contestants and it was off the Las Vegas to try for the $100,000 grand prize! The guys competed on the premiere show and won so they stayed in Las Vegas during the entire 2 weeks of taping. Because they won the first show, they would be featured on all of the subsequent episodes. The Grand Finale, airing on August 24, couldn't come soon enough, as they had to keep the outcome a secret. Way to go guys!

Mark used the opportunity after the show to talk to the young cloggers about what they do and why they do it. He encouraged them to keep that passion because they never know where it might lead.

ALL THAT! members Delohn Collins, Brian Staggs, Mike Curtis and Mark Clifford pose with their newest fan—the legendary MC Hammer. Hammer has taken a personal interest in ALL THAT!

After ALL THAT! won their show, Heather went to Las Vegas to support Mark and the rest of the group. She too got to mingle with the celebrities including Carmen Electra. For even more photos, check out Mark's website at ToeTaps.com.
