UCDC Clogging Teams Host Bake Sale in Memory of Lauren Maziarz

On October 13th 2012, seven clogging teams from UCDC joined forces to host a bake sale to benefit Cookies for Kids Cancer. The event took place at Bi-Lo and Ingles in Powdersville, as well as the Hurricane Park Soccer and Football fields. Over 50 dancers baked cookies, brownies, cupcakes and other treats to sell. Another group of dancers volunteered their time to man the tables at each selling venue and to advertise the event by creating and displaying posters. The end result was a great success with a total of $1800 raised for our charity! In addition, the OXO company generously matched our proceeds 100%, giving us a total profit of $3600! We even had enough left over goodies to donate to a local soup kitchen and to the Ronald Mcdonald House.

Cookies for Kids Cancer is a non-profit organization founded by a mom who watched her son endure cancer treatment, and then lost him to the disease. One hundred percent of all proceeds go to medical centers that specialize in the development of new treatments for childhood cancers. Recognition for the organization is growing in our area thanks to Powdersville resident, Robin Gaines. Her daughter, Lauren Maziarz, lost her fight with a childhood cancer in October 2010. Lauren danced briefly at UCDC before she became too sick to continue. She dearly loved her dance class and fought to come back to UCDC. It was truly an honor for our cloggers to host this bake sale in Lauren’s memory!
