Wren High School Student and UCDC Dancer Wins National Crown

Rachel Yuki Wyatt was crowned Miss America’s Outstanding Teen (MAOTeen) 2013 on the 18th of August 2012 in Orlando, FL. This is a sister pageant to the Miss America Pageant, in which Wyatt will dance this coming January. This pageant is a national competition that offers teens the opportunity to be awarded scholarships for college. Over the previous seven years this organization has provided over $4 million in college scholarships. Rachel received $12,000 in savings bonds when she won the Miss SC Teen 2012 pageant in July, and she won an additional $25,000 in scholarships with this current title.

She is the second Upstate teen to win the MAOTeen competition since it began eight years ago. Rachel is an extremely active senior at Wren High School. She is the Senior Class President, a section Yearbook editor, member of the National Honor Society, charter member of the National English Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Beta Club, Palmetto Girls State Delegate, Anderson Junior Leadership Delegate, a singer in the Wren High Show Chorus and member of the Category V Wren Dance Team. In addition, she is a member of the UCDC Senior jazz competition team. Rachel is also a teaching assistant with the UCDC Upstate Challengers special needs dance class. Her personal platform is promoting dance therapy – Miracles through Movement, and her National MAOTeen platform supports the Children’s Miracle Network. She is a member of Mt Airy Baptist Church.

This title will send Rachel all over the country supporting the MAOTeen national platform, Children’s Miracle Network, and her personal platform, as she promotes scholastic achievement, community involvement, and healthy living. Her travels will take her to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC along with numerous other venues.

UCDC is so very proud of you Rachel! You truly are a role model in every aspect of your life; from scholastic achievement to everyday kindness and being a positive team motivator to your poise and grace. You certainly are the vision everyone has for “Outstanding Teen” and we feel so privileged to know you so well on a daily basis and to have watched you grow into such a wonderful young lady. Godspeed for a wonderful year!
