UCDC Jazz Company Member Takes the Crown

Senior Jazz company member, Rachel Wyatt, was crowned Miss South Carolina Teen 2012 on July 14th at the City of Columbia’s Township Auditorium. She won overall talent with her lyrical routine “The Climb”. Rachel struck a “Tebow” pose immediately after being named the winner. A whirlwind of National media attention quickly began. When interviewed she stated “His whole goal of doing that is to give all the glory and honor to our lord and savior, Jesus Christ, and that’s exactly what I was trying to do,” said Wyatt, who won more than $12,000 in savings bonds. It’s also something her sister, suggested. “She had said beforehand, ‘How cool would it be if the winner got down and did The Tebow.’?” (Thestate.com) This comes as no shock to her UCDC family where the studio owner openly prays at our group gatherings and the Jazz & Hip Hop Company director prays with each team before competing each routine. For those of us so fortunate to know Rachel this was certainly no stunt, it is just truly how authentic and what a devout Christian we witness in her every day.

Three of UCDC’s Jazz company members participated in many events and the four night pageant as a Princess. Belle Hunsinger was a Princess for The Miss Greater Mauldin Teen (Rachel Wyatt), Sydney Crawford was a Princess for The Miss Heart of Greenville Teen and O’Malley Bannister was a Princess for Miss Hilton Head Island.

Rachel will compete in the upcoming Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant 14 – 18 August 2012 in Orlando, Florida. Congratulations Rachel Wyatt, your UCDC family could not be any prouder of you!
